Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to bring to your attention some of the current activities of the ASNEngr.

1.     The American Society of Nepalese Engineers (ASNEngr) is making necessary preparations to organize the 7th ASNEngr/CAN-USA (Computer Association of Nepal-USA) joint Conference on June 21-22, 2014 in Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, with the cordial support from colleagues in Arizona, with the theme “Application of Engineering, Science and Technology in building a better, safer and sustainable Society.”

2.     This is also the ASNEngr election year.  The announcement for “Call for Nominations” has already been sent out by the Nomination/Election Committee.  Please participate in this election by contesting, nominating and voting.  Furthermore, according to the ASNEngr Bylaws, you need to have your membership current to be able to participate in this election.

3.     The ASNEngr has selected Ashu Adhikari from Tribhuvan University, Shakar Bhattarai from Kathmandu University and Rabindra Adhikari from Pokhara University on the basis of their top ranking in the Engineering Entrance Examination for the “2013 Student Merit Awards.”  Each awardee will receive $200 from the ASNEngr to support the academic related expenses.

4.     The ASNEngr Greater Washington, D.C. Chapter (GWDC) has been organizing Technical Conferences and Seminars for Professional Development Hours (PDH) on a periodic basis, one of which was accomplished recently on Jan. 11, 2014 in the Washington, D.C. area with overwhelming success.

5.     The ASNEngr is also supporting  “The 12th International Symposium on Geo-Disaster Reduction” scheduled on Sept. 5-6, 2014 in Fullerton, CA, as an organizing partner.

6.     As you are aware, the position paper on “Earthquake Preparedness and Disaster Relief in Nepal,” being jointly prepared by the ASNEngr, America Nepal Medical Foundation (ANMF) and Computer Association of Nepal-USA (CAN-USA), has reached the final stage and will be published shortly.

We welcome the opportunity to garner your ideas, suggestions and recommendations to better accomplish the Society’s objectives and purposes.  Your membership contribution will help facilitate execute its ongoing and future programs and activities smoothly. It is quite possible that due to your hectic schedule, renewing the membership might have slipped your mind, or, you simply did not have time to do it.  Therefore, on behalf of the ASNEngr, I appeal to you to take the time to renew your membership on-line by visiting today, and support its activities. I would also like to take this opportunity to extend our grateful appreciations to those members who have already renewed the ASNEngr membership by paying annual dues. After all, the Society belongs to us – all of us – and we need to take the ownership for its betterment and growth.

Thank you.  We are looking forward to hearing from you.

With kindest regards,

Rajendra K. Shrestha, Ph.D.

President, ASNEngr
